A Whiff of Something in the Air

Today as I started out on my Tuesday run I came across a familiar scent, the smell of fresh cut alfalfa. This pleasant odor stirred up several memories in my mind which made me smile. First of all things it took me back to when I was young and had quarter horses. The farmer down the road from my parents, Johnny Fash, had the best alfalfa hay in the county. We used to drive down and get hay right out of the field. My precious father, who is allergic to hay, would let me drive without a license while he threw hay into the back of his old cream colored Ford. At the time it was hot and humid. I never would have thought I would be looking back all these years ago and find it a fond memory.

The Scent of the hay also reminded me of the time I got to rake the hay fields in Eastern KY when I worked for D.H. Resorts. We had 25 head of horses to feed during the winter months. I remember wearing shorts and a tank top for the occasion. If anyone reading this knows about baling hay this was not a smart move. Well, maybe it was. I got tractor duty until a long sleeve shirt arrived. We had a really good time that day. It was spent with Steve and Dan, Derrick and Jason. What a hard job. I couldn't imagine doing this again.



Our minds can be funny at times. Lately I feel like mine has just been crazy.......but I'm ok. It keeps life fun and exciting. I think that one of my favorite reasons for running is the things that run through my mind. It makes me feel like It's being cleared away of all of the worries and concerns I have. I enjoy being alone at times and running is a great way to have quiet time to reflect on things. Try it sometime. You may like it!
